
Eagles Complete Comeback to Defeat Syracuse in ACC Tournament

Dontavia Waggoner and Teya Sidberry combined for 56 points and 26 rebounds
GREENSBORO, N.C. - Trailing by as many as 19, Boston College pulled off the comeback in a thrilling 76-73 win over No. 13 seed Syracuse on Wednesday afternoon in First Horizon Coliseum.
The Eagles advance to the second round, where they will play No. 5 seed North Carolina at 11 a.m.
BC was led by the dynamic duo of Dontavia Waggoner and Teya Sidberry, who poured in a combined 56 points, 26 rebounds, four assists and shot 21-of-40 from the floor.
Waggoner carded a career-high 32 points with a season-high nine rebounds, shooting 12-of-24 from the field and 8-of-11 from the line. Teya Sidberry totaled 24 points and 17 off the glass.
The Eagles finished the game on a 6-0 run and hit five of their last seven field goals to seal the win. JaKayla Thompson, who finished with seven points and was a plus-17, hit a floater with 1:27 left in the game. BC's defense held the Orange scoreless over the final 2:12 of the game, leading to Sidberry icing the game at the line.
BC came out of the second half with a 10-0 run over the first 2:20 of the half, quickly slicing the lead to single digits. The Eagles continued to climb back into the game, as a T'yana Todd jumper with under 10 seconds left in the third shortened the gap to four.
Syracuse went up by as much as six in the fourth quarter late in the contest, 72-66, which was the last time the Orange scored.
BC controlled the paint with 46 points, while also owning the glass, 41-32, with 18 offensive rebounds. The Eagles held Syracuse to 36 percent shooting in the second half after allowing the Orange to shoot over 50 in the first.

- The 19-point comeback was the third largest ACC Women's Basketball Tournament comeback.
- Waggoner is the first player since Taylor Soule in 2021-22 to tally at least 30 points in a game, while she is the first player since Cam Swartz in 2020-21 to record 30-plus points in an ACC Tournament game.
- Waggoner is one of four players in the ACC this season to score at least 30 points with zero 3-pointers.
- The 17 rebounds for Sidberry are the most since Carolyn Swords' 18 against BU in the 2011-12 season.
- The 17 rebounds are also the most in an ACC Tournament game for a BC play.
- Thompson was a plus-17 in a career-high 29 minutes.
- Tatum Greene was also a plus-15 in 27 minutes and Savannah Samuel was a plus-13 in 24.
