
Eagles' Valiant Effort Falls Short in Second Round Loss to UNC

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Boston College women's basketball put forth a valiant effort in a 78-71 setback to No. 5 seed North Carolina in the second round of the 2025 Ally ACC Women's Basketball Tournament in Greensboro.
The Eagles fall to 16-17 on the season, while the Tar Heels advance to the quarterfinals.
Tatum Greene turned in the best game of her career, scoring a team and career-high 18 points on 7-of-11 shooting and 4-of-5 from deep. Kaylah Ivey stepped up with nine of her 15 points in the fourth quarter with all five of her field goals from beyond the arc. She dished out a team-best five assists with four off the glass.
Teya Sidberry rounded out the leading scorers with 12 points and five off the glass. Dontavia Waggoner totaled a team-high eight rebounds with five boards.
BC fought back from an 11-0 deficit to tie up the game in the third quarter, 54-54, thanks to a Sidberry 3-pointer with the clock winding down.
Ivey and Sidberry combined for three straight trifectas to give the Eagles their largest lead, 63-54, capping off a stretch of six straight field goals and four consecutive treys during a 14-4 run.
However, the Tar Heels finished the game hitting nine of its final 11 baskets to outscore BC by 16. The Eagles sliced the gap in half after T'yana Todd and JaKayla Thompson scored four straight. UNC sealed the game at the line hitting four.
Greene sparked the Eagles' run in the first period, draining all three of her 3-point attempts to shorten the deficit to four, 18-14.
BC stayed within striking distance in the second quarter despite the Tar Heels taking a nine-point lead. Todd's jumper at the end of the frame made it a six-point game at the break.
