Eagles will resume action on Wednesday afternoon at Richmond
Patrick Roche and Vince Cimini each drove in two over the first three frames, giving the Eagles a 4-1 lead.
The Lancers put runners at the corners with no outs in their half of the third, and Alex Bryant induced a 6-4-3 double play brought the run home from third to make it 4-2. Longwood added two more in the frame, making it a 4-3 game after three innings.
In the top of the fourth, Sam McNulty squared around to bunt, and a throwing error from the catcher brought Jack Toomey across. Josiah Ragsdale and Kyle Wolff added sacrifices to push the BC lead to 7-3. Freshman Gavin Soares came in to pitch the bottom of the fourth, and worked a scoreless frame, setting down the Lancers in order with one strikeout.
Vince Cimini added another RBI in the fifth, and another Lancers' throwing error in the sixth extended the Eagles' lead to 9-3. Brady Miller entered for his first collegiate appearance in the fifth, and worked a 1-2-3 inning in his first inning as an Eagle. The Lancers struck for three in the sixth, making it a 9-6 game. Cimini logged his fourth RBI of the day in the seventh, driving a ball to the right-center gap to bring home Adam Magpoc, who reached on a two-out double. Leading 10-6 in the seventh, Joey Ryan inherited a one-out, bases-loaded jam and did his job, striking out the first batter he faced and forcing an inning-ending groundout to maintain the four-run lead after seven.
With two down in the eighth, Sam McNulty smoked his fourth double of the season down the left-field line to extend the BC lead to 11-6. Longwood responded with four in the bottom of the eighth, drawing within one, 11-10. After the Eagles added one in the top of the ninth, the Lancers rallied for two in the bottom of the frame to walk it off. Eric Schroeder took the loss for Boston College (0-1), with Braydon Gray earning the win for Longwood (1-0).Â
BC will look to bounce back on Wednesday afternoon at Richmond.
