Offense Pops for Five Home Runs as BC Handles UConn 18-6
March 25, 2025 | Baseball
Eagles will return home for weekend series vs. Pitt starting Friday at 3:00 p.m.
The hosts plated two in the second and two in the third, taking an early 4-0 lead after three innings. Nick Wang led off the fourth with a single back up the middle, and Sam McNulty cut the deficit in half with a two-run, opposite-field shot, his second home run of the season to make it 4-2. Owen DeShazo drew a walk, and Josiah Ragsdale matched McNulty with a two-run homer of his own, his second of the season, to even the game at 4-4.
The Huskies retook the lead in their half of the fourth on an RBI triple, but the Eagles responded. Jack Toomey and Vince Cimini led off the fifth with singles, and a sacrifice bunt from Nick Wang caused a throwing error from the pitcher, scoring Toomey and drawing even at 5-5. Esteban Garcia came in to pinch hit and delivered, lining a two-run single back up the middle to put BC in front 7-5.
Kyle Kipp relieved BC starter Brady Miller after three frames and worked a scoreless fifth, striking out the leadoff batter and inducing a 6-3 double play to end the frame.
The Eagles added insurance in the sixth and seventh, led off by a Patrick Roche single in the sixth. Cimini walked, and Nick Wang delivered with a three-run shot to right field, putting BC up 10-5. The Huskies drew one back in the bottom of the sixth, but Gunnar Johnson answered with a solo home run of his own, his first of the season, and the Eagles' fourth long ball of the game. Vince Cimini made it 12-6 with a solo shot in the eighth, his first home run of the season. Wang came across on a wild pitch, and Adam Magpoc added an RBI bunt single to extend the Eagles' advantage to 14-6. With two outs in the frame, Roche put the Eagles up ten on a two-run single through the left side, and Jack Toomey followed with an RBI single, making it a 17-6 game. Toomey advanced to second, and after stealing third, an errant throw brought him across, putting BC up 18-6, where the score would hold after eight innings.
Kipp earned the win (2-1) for BC, going three innings in relief, striking out three with two earned runs. John Kwiatkowski finished the final two innings on the mound, facing the minimum while punching out one.
The Eagles will return home for a weekend ACC series against Pittsburgh, starting this Friday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. at Harrington Athletics Village.
