Eagles will play a Saturday doubleheader to conclude series starting at 12:00 CT
NEW ORLEANS — Boston College Baseball (1-2, 0-0) fell 5-4 to the University of New Orleans (2-2, 0-0) in the opening game of the three-game series on Friday night.
The Eagles struck first in the top of the second. Vince Cimini reached on a hit-by-pitch, and later scored from third on an errant pickoff attempt to first base. New Orleans took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the frame, and extended it to 3-1 in the sixth.
In the top of the seventh, Cimini led off the inning with a single back up the middle, sparking a rally of four consecutive hits. Josiah Ragsdale brought BC within one, roping an RBI double to the left-center gap. Jack Toomey picked up Ragsdale, tying the game with an RBI single back up the middle. Toomey reached third, and Sam McNulty put BC back in front with a perfectly placed RBI single into shallow right field.
New Orleans responded in the bottom of the seventh with a two-spot, retaking a 5-4 lead, which they would go on to hold.
Eric Schroeder started for BC and tossed three innings of two-run ball, giving way to Kyle Kipp, who delivered two scoreless frames, his second strong stint in as many outings with two strikeouts to just two hits allowed. Peter Schaefer took over in the sixth, and was issued the loss (0-1). Carson Kimball earned the win for New Orleans (1-0), with Bryce Calloway picking up the save (1).
The Eagles and Privateers will play a Saturday doubleheader starting at 12:00 CT/1:00 ET, with A.J. Colarusso slated to start game one for Boston College.
