Back and Forth Battle Goes to USC Upstate on Friday Night

Game two between Eagles and Spartans scheduled for Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
Jack Toomey started his first game as an Eagle with a bang. After a sacrifice fly to open the scoring in the second inning, the Wellesley, MA native drove a two-run home run over the left field fence to extend the BC lead to 3-0 in the fourth inning.
Eric Schroeder started the game for the Eagles and allowed just two hits, delivering three scoreless innings to open. Kyle Kipp took over in the fourth inning, issuing two runs on two hits with three strikeouts and a walk over 2.1 frames of work. John Kwiatkowski relieved Kipp in the sixth, with the Spartans rallying to tie the game at 3-3 before Kwiatkowski escaped the frame.
In the ensuing frame, Kyle Wolff drew a two-out walk, and Colin Larson entered as a pinch runner. Larson swiped second, and moments later, a dropped ball in center field, courtesy of an Adam Magpoc brought him home from second. With runners at first and third, Nick Wang was sent in motion for second base, and an errant throw allowed Magpoc to score from third, allowing the Eagles to retake a 5-3 lead in the 7th.
Tyler Mudd took over on the bump to begin the bottom of the 7th, and USC Upstate responded with three home runs to take a 7-5 lead after seven frames. The Eagles responded with one in the eighth to cut the deficit to 7-6, but the Spartans struck again with a three-run home run in the bottom of the frame to push their lead to 10-6.
The Eagles got one back in the 9th before the Spartans closed it out. Tyler Mudd was issued the loss (0-1), with Braden Consaul earning the win (1-0).
