BC Falls Short to Notre Dame in Double Overtime

Chad Venning led five Eagles in double figures with 21 points
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. — Boston College dropped a 97-94 double overtime decision to Notre Dame on Wednesday night at Conte Forum. The Eagles fell to 10-14 overall and 2-11 in ACC play. Chad Venning led the Eagles in scoring, finishing with 21 points on 10-18 FG. Roger McFarlane added 15 points and a team-high nine rebounds.

FIRST HALF
- Both teams connected on 5-of-9 to start the game, and the Eagles and Irish were tied at 11-11 at the 13:40 mark
- Dion Brown scored seven of BC's first 15 points, connecting on his first three field goal attempts
- After an Elijah Strong 3-pointer tied it at 18-18 with 10 minutes left in the half, Notre Dame scored six unanswered over the next minute and a half to take a 24-18 lead
- Trailing 29-23 with 7:19 left, BC used an 8-2 push - capped by a 3-pointer from McFarlane - to tie it up at 31-31 with 3:38 remaining in the half
- The BC run extended to 15-1 over a four-minute span. Fred Payne contributed to eight straight points during the run - a cross-court pass for a McFarlane layup and two straight 3-pointers to help BC finish with a 41-35 lead at the break
- The Eagles' 60.7% (17-28) shooting was the best single-half FG percentage mark of the season
- McFarlane began the second frame with back-to-back 3-pointers, pushing BC's lead to 47-38
- The run extended to 14-3 over nearly the next four minutes, as the Eagles extended it to 55-41
- After another jumper from McFarlane made it 57-43 with 14:10 to go, the Irish scored five straight and BC called for the quick :30
- ND got within six - 66-60 with 10 minutes left in regulation, but
- The two teams traded baskets for much of the next four minutes before the Irish got within four - 72-68 - with 5:59 to go
- The Irish used an 8-0 run late to tie it at 76-76, but a Venning layup with 1:20 to go put BC back ahead by two - 78-76.
- Dion Brown's reverse layup and then two Notre Dame free throws tied it at 80-80 with 22.2 left
- Venning's turnaround layup attempt on BC's last possession rimmed out and the game headed to overtime
- After each team tallied a basket in the extra frame, the score remained 82-82 with 2:02 left
- Hand's 3-pointer with 1:09 left tied it at 85-85 and that score held as the game went into a second OT period
- Midway through the second overtime, Notre Dame jumped out to a 93-88 lead, outscoring the Eagles, 8-3
- The Eagles climbed back with a 6-0 run, seizing a 94-93 advantage with 1:20 left in the second OT period
- Notre Dame scored the go-ahead basket with 0:16 remaining and made a defensive stop to close out the game
- Five players finished in double figures: Venning (21), Hand (17), Brown (15), McFarlane (15), and Payne (11).
- Joshua Beadle tied his career high with six assists.
- Venning recorded his third game this season with four blocks.
- Payne tied a season-high with three 3-pointers.
- The Eagles dished a season-best 22 assists
- Today's game marked the 46th meeting between the two schools.
- On Saturday, Boston College travels to Raleigh to take on N.C. State in the lone regular season meeting against the Wolfpack.
