BC Tripped by Tulane in Overtime at Charleston Classic

Hand Jr, Payne, and Forte combine for 63 points
CHARLESTON, S.C. — Boston College played Tulane in the consolation game of the Shriners Children's Charleston Classic Sunday evening, falling 93-90 in overtime. Donald Hand Jr. led the Eagles with 26 points, paired with Chase Forte's 22 points.
FIRST HALF
- Tulane scored the first bucket of the game with a turnaround mid-range jumper. Donald Hand Jr. scored BC's first points with a driving layup, using a spin move to lay one off the glass
- The Green Wave used a 10-0 run to build a double-digit lead midway through the first half
- Forte took over at the 9:38 mark, swishing a stepback corner three to spark a 13-4 scoring run for BC. He added another three and a contested floater in that stretch to even the score at 25-25
- After Tulane reclaimed a seven-point advantage, Donald Hand Jr. cut the deficit with a steal and driving-and-one layup
- Hand Jr. gave the Eagles their first lead of the evening, going three-for-three from the line
- BC led 40-39 going into the half
SECOND HALF
- Tulane and BC traded the lead in the opening quarter of action. A stepback midrange from Payne and free throws from Boden Kapke gave the Eagles a three-point cushion
- The Eagles would hold that lead until the 2:47 mark, when the Green Wave used a 6-0 scoring run to regain the lead
- With 51 seconds left and trailing by three, Hand Jr. pulled up from 30 feet to drain an and-one three, tying the contest at 77-77
- Tulane answered, holding a three-point lead with 4.4 seconds left. Off a sideline pass, Kapke launched a three from the Charleston logo, draining the bucket to tie the game at 83-83, sending it to overtime
OVERTIME
- Hand Jr. opened the extra period with two free throws
- The Green Wave found another three-point lead, but it was squandered by a Chase Forte three-pointer to tie the game at 90-90
- A driving layup and free throw built Tulane's lead to three once again. They would hold on for a 93-90 overtime win
NOTABLES
- Chase Forte went 5-for-8 from behind the arc, a new career high
- Donald Hand Jr. (26) and Forte (22) both scored season highs in points
- Shaw collected 10 rebounds, the second time he's recorded double-digit figures this season
- Tonight marked the first-ever meeting between BC and Tulane
WHAT'S NEXT
- Boston College returns to the Edgerley Family Court at Conte Forum for its final game in November. They host Harvard on Wednesday, November 26
