Conmy and Stiga each record three points; Cloutier posts career-high 35 saves
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The No. 15/15 Boston College men's hockey team opened the weekend with a 7-3 victory over No. 10/11 Maine on Friday night at Kelley Rink, extending BC's winning streak to five games. Ryan Conmy and Teddy Stiga led the way for the Eagles with three points each. Lukas Gustafsson, James Hagens, Dean Letourneau and Jake Sondreal all finished with two points. Louka Cloutier backstopped the defense with a career-high 35 saves, including 15 in the third period.
Boston College improves to 7-4-1 overall and 5-2-0 in Hockey East while Maine drops to 7-5-1 overall and 4-3-0 in league play
The Eagles jumped out to an early lead midway through the opening period with a power play goal. With just seconds left on the advantage, Sondreal won a faceoff in the offensive zone and Letourneau immediately struck a wrist shot that went bar down past the Maine goaltender.
BC added its second power play goal of the period with just over two minutes to go in the frame. Stiga made a drop pass to Gustafsson, who quickly passed it to the left to Hagens for the one-timer that stood no chance for the Maine goalie.
Boston College added to its lead during the second period when Will Moore sent Landan Resendes through on a breakaway immediately after a save from Cloutier. Moore controlled the rebound off of Cloutier and popped it up into the air in the neutral zone for Resendes to take towards goal and the freshman showed off the handles as he moved the puck around Albin Boija to put the Eagles in front by three.
The Black Bears cut into the deficit later in the second period when Owen Fowler redirected a pass in the slot into the back of the net. Maine scored just 20 seconds into the third period to make it a one-goal game after Charlie Russell scored from close range.
BC pushed the lead back to two when Sondreal made a great pass across the front of goal to the back post for a wide open tap-in for Hagens for his second goal of the night.
After Maine scored a power play goal of their own with 11:07 remaining in the game, the Eagles tallied three more to close it out.
Conmy scored the first of his two goals of the period with a rip from the left faceoff circle after a perfect pass from Luka Radivojevic. Just two minutes later, Stiga joined in on the goal scoring when he followed up on a loose rebound off a shot by Conmy.
With less than a minute to go, Conmy sealed the game with an empty net goal from center ice.
The Eagles defense came up big in front of Cloutier, blocking 18 Maine shots.
