October 24, 2025 | Men's Hockey
BC unable to overcome second period burst by the Pioneers
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The No. 9 Boston College men's hockey team's three-game unbeaten run came to an end on Friday evening as they fell to No. 7 Denver, 7-3, at Kelley Rink. Andre Gasseau, Jake Sondreal, and James Hagens each scored for the Eagles.
Boston College drops to 2-2-1 on the season while Denver is now 3-1-1.
BC opened the scoring midway through the opening period when Gasseau put the Eagles in front 1-0. Will Moore, skating down the right side, found Gasseau in the slot, who displayed his hand skills by maneuvering around the DU goaltender and tucking it inside the goal.
The Pioneers equalized minutes later when they won a faceoff in their offensive zone, setting up a shot by Eric Pohlkamp from the blue line.
After Denver took the lead, the Eagles responded 90 seconds later when Sondreal fired one from the left faceoff circle that flew past DU goaltender Quentin Miller.
With the game tied at 2-2 after the opening 20 minutes, Denver exploded for three-straight goals in the middle frame to take a three-goal lead. Boston College cut into the deficit late in the period when Hagens managed to score off-balance from the slot to get the Eagles back into the game.
Denver struck twice more in the third to push their lead back up, including an empty net goal in the final few minutes.
