UNCASVILLE, Conn. - Boston College men's basketball was defeated 71-52 by the UConn Huskies Monday evening, as they competed in the Hall of Fame Exhibition game at Mohegan Sun Arena.
The Eagles will begin the season on Nov. 3 on the road against Florida Atlantic in Boca Raton, Fla.
Donald Hand Jr. led all scorers in the exhibition, collecting 23 points and seven rebounds, including two and-one makes. Hand Jr. also led all players from the charity stripe, lacing 12 free throws.
Fred Payne logged 12 points and four rebounds, and Aidan Shaw led the Eagles with eight boards, including a game-high tying three offensive rebounds. Â
Boston College battled closely with UConn through the first 10 minutes of the opening half, as a Payne three and multiple scoring opportunities from Hand Jr. kept them within a few scores. The Huskies responded with a 15-6 run to double their lead at the final media timeout of the half, holding a 32-16 advantage. The Eagles answered with a run of their own to close the half, as buckets from Payne, Hand Jr., and Marko Radunovic cut the deficit to 35-27 heading into the half.
The visitors then opened the second half on fire, as Boden Kapke used a soft touch to give the Eagles a 38-37, their first of the evening, and cap off a 13-2 run with a pair of Hand Jr. free throws. However, UConn responded with a run of its own, knocking down 13 points to reclaim a nine-point lead at the penultimate media timeout.
UConn would extend the lead after multiple trips to the line made it a 15 point game. Boston College continued to battle, but a late three-point shot from Braylon Mullins and transition bucket sealed the 71-52 victory for the Huskies.
