Eagles Drop Season Opener in Overtime to Florida Atlantic

BOCA RATON, Fla. — Boston College fell 83-78 in overtime to Florida Atlantic in the season opener at the Eleanor R. Baldwin Arena.
Donald Hand Jr. led the Eagles with 20 points, adding seven rebounds in 36 minutes. Boden Kapke recorded 17 and eight boards, while Chase Forte scored 14 points and dished out four assists.
BC shot 41.8% from the floor (28-67), connecting on 35.7% of its three pointers (10-28). They also outrebounded the Owls 52-38, grabbing five more offensive boards (14-9).
FIRST HALF
- BC and FAU were tied 7-7 before the Owls went on a 9-0 scoring run, highlighted by three pointers from Xander Pintelon
- The Eagles would cut the deficit to five after Forte used top of the key three and tough driving layup to make it 23-28
- Boston College trailed seven at the four minute media, but would mount an 8-5 run with buckets from Kapke, Hand Jr., Fred Payne, and Jason Asemota
- FAU led 35-31 at the break
SECOND HALF
- BC pushed to take lead, trailing by two scores through the first two media timeouts. Forte's finger roll layup leveled the score at 47-47 with 10:24 remaining
- Marko Radunovic and Kapke followed with back-to-back threes to give the Eagles their first lead since early in the first half
- The Owls made an 8-0 run with multiple threes to cut the lead to three points at the final media timeout
- BC pushed its lead back to five points, but FAU used a 5-0 run in the final 1:15 to tie the game at 66-66 and send it to overtime
OVERTIME
- BC struck first with a Forte layup and Hand Jr. sidestep three to give the visitors a 71-68 advantage
- FAU answered with 10 points in the middle portion of overtime to grab a 78-72 lead
- Three point plays from Payne and Hand Jr. kept the Eagles within a score, and a missed free throw gave them a chance to tie the game
- Hand Jr.'s three missed on back-iron, as FAU sealed the game after making both shots from the charity stripe, earning an 83-78 overtime win

- Kapke recorded a career-high 17 points and three point makes (3)
- Payne dished a career-high seven assists, six coming in the second half
- Radunovic and Caleb Steger made their collegiate debuts. Radunovic scored eight points, going 2-3 from behind the arc
- Kapke, Forte, Asemota and Aidan Shaw made their BC debuts, combining for 35 points, 25 rebounds and five assists
- Tonight's defeat is the Eagles' first to the Owls, and are now 3-1 in the all-time series
