
Eagles Fight by Fall to No.6 Louisville

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The Boston College Eagles (12-5, 1-4 ACC) fell 3-0 (25-21, 25-19, 25-22)to #6 Stanford (13-3, 4-1 ACC) for their ACC home opener Friday at the Margot Connell Center.

Sam Hoppes and Anna Herrington both led the Eagles with nine kills, the duo added 10 points. Herrington hit .571, Hoppes hit .533. Sophomore Lucy Mott guided the offense with 13 assists; senior Hanna Hoffman added 10. Danica Rach, Audrey Ross and Cornelia Roach each added four kills. The Eagles posted 32 kills, three kills and 4.0 blocks.

Hoppes opened up scoring for the Eagles with back-to-back kills to tie it up at three. The Eagles trailed the Cardinal 15-13 at the media timeout. Kills from Ehrlich and Rach assisted the offensive front, but the Cardinals took a 21-17 lead, forcing a BC timeout. With kills from Herrington, Hoppes and Roach and an ace from Mott, her 18th of the season, the Eagles trailed by two, but the Cardinal took the first set 25-21.

The Cardinals started the set with a 4-0 lead, Hoppes starting off the scoring again for BC. The Cardinals led 12-5, pressuring BC to take a timeout. A kill from Hoppes took BC on a 4-0 run while kills from Roach and Ross pushed the Eagles within six, but the Cardinal took the second set 25-19.

The Eagles came out flying as kills from Rach, Roach, Ross (2), Herrington and an ace from Hoppes got the Eagles to their first lead of the match, up 7-5 to start the set. The Cardinal and Eagles tied eight times, going point-for-point. Despite tying it up again at 20, the Cardinal didn't let up, taking a 22-20 lead forcing a BC timeout. Kills from Herrington (2) pushed the Eagles to trail by just two, but Stanford secured the third set, 25-22.
