Cameron Leary hit team-leading 14th and 15th homers on Thursday night
The Eagles came out of the gates firing, bringing five across the plate in the opening frame to take a 5-0 lead after one. After RBIs from Cameron Leary (Bethpage, N.Y.) and Kyle Wolff (Andover, Mass.), BC opened it up on a three-run home run from Parker Landwehr (Baltimore, Md.), his fourth of the season. The sides traded runs in the second and third, with Cameron Leary putting the Eagles up 6-1 on a solo home run, a towering 410-foot blast to center field for his team-leading 14th of the season.
The Eagles' bats picked up where they left off in the fourth, with John Collins (New York, N.Y.) leaving the yard, a solo shot for his second of the year, and Sam McNulty following by smoking an RBI double down the right field line. Clemson added two in the fourth, two in the fifth, and one in the sixth to take a 9-8 lead, but it wouldn't last long.
With two outs in the seventh, Austin Hartsell (Bridgewater, Mass.) roped a double down the left-field line, and Barry Walsh (Sterling, Mass.) picked him up with a double of his own, bringing home Hartsell on a drive to the left-center gap and tying the game at 9-9.
Tied at 9-9 entering the eighth, Cameron Leary banged one off the batter's eye for the second time five innings, putting the Eagles up 10-9 on a 428-foot blast, his 15th of the season. The Tigers responded with a three-run shot in the bottom half of the inning to take a 12-10 lead, where the score would hold.
John West (Shrewsbury, Mass.) started for the Eagles and went six innings, striking out seven and walking two while allowing nine runs, seven being earned. West punctuated his start by punching out three Clemson batters in a row to end the sixth. Tyler Mudd took the loss (2-3) for Boston College. Reed Garris earned the win (1-1) for Clemson, with Austin Gordon picking up the save (9).
The Eagles and Tigers will play game two of the series on Friday at 1:00 p.m.
