Lacrosse Falls in Overtime to Virginia

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - Â Boston College lacrosse suffered a heartbreaking 13-12 loss in overtime to No. 11 Virginia. BC falls to 12-3 and 6-2 in the conference, while the Cavaliers improve to 12-3 and 5-3 in the league.Â
Emma LoPinto registered five points with three goals and two assists for a team-high five points along with three ground balls. Mckenna Davis registered one goal and three helpers, giving the junior four points. Kayla Martello netted a hat trick.Â
Hunter Roman led the defense with a pair of caused turnovers. Cassidy Weeks' five draw controls tied for the team lead along with a goal and an assist. Andrea Reynolds added five draw controls as well with two helpers.Â
Trailing by as much as five in the contest, Davis' goal at the end of the first half sparked a 6-0 run that stretched into the third period.Â
LoPinto scored in the first seven seconds of the third quarter before three more goals and a second LoPinto score capped off the surge to give BC a 9-8 lead.Â
Virginia scored the final goal of the third period to tie up the contest, 9-9, going into the final frame.Â
BC and UVA traded goals until LoPinto found the back of the net to make the score 11-11. Ryan Smith came in the clutch as she gave the Eagles a one-goal lead with 54 seconds left.Â
The Cavaliers' timely goal with just two seconds left sent the game into overtime before scoring for the win.Â
BC returns to action on Thursday in the regular-season finale against Syracuse at 5 p.m. in Alumni Stadium.Â
