
Eagles Fall to No. 8 Notre Dame

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - No. 2 Boston College suffered a narrow 15-14 setback to No. 8 Notre Dame on Saturday afternoon in the Red Bandanna Game in Alumni Stadium.Â
The Eagles fall to 8-2 and 3-1 in the ACC, while Notre Dame improves to 6-3 and 2-2 in the conference.Â
Ryan Smith was recognized before the game as the Red Bandanna recipient, wearing the No. 19 jersey in honor of Welles Crowther.Â
Rachel Clark totaled a game-high six goals in the contest, with four either giving BC the lead or tying up the game. Kayla Martello netted four points (3 G, 1 A) and Emma LoPinto scored all three of her goals in the second half, and Mckenna Davis recorded five assists.Â
It was a back-and-forth battle in the final quarter with neither team leading by more than one goal. After ND captured a 14-13 lead with 3:20 left in the contest, Clark fired in her sixth score to tie up the contest.Â
ND scored the go-ahead goal with 15 seconds left, with time running out after winning the next draw.Â
Boston College led by as much as three in the second frame thanks to a Martello score to give her team the 6-3 edge. However, the Irish went on a 4-0 run to go into the half with a 7-6 lead.Â
BC trailed by two midway through the third until LoPinto and Belle Smith scored to tie things upm, 9-9. ND responded with two straight of its own to go into the fourth with the 11-9 lead.Â
Andrea Reynolds led the way with five draw controls while both Weeks and R. Smith had four. B. Smith and R. Smith led the way with a pair of caused turnovers.Â
BC returns to action next week in Durham against Duke on Saturday at 1 p.m.Â
