
Hughes and Onik Place Top-Three at NCAA Northeast Regionals

Elijah Onik places second overall and Levi Hughes places third, while Fencing competes at NCAA Northeast Regionals
BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – Elijah Onik earned second overall in Men's Foil, while Levi Hughes placed third overall in Men's Epee as the Boston College Fencing team competed at the 2024 NCAA Northeast Regionals on Sunday, March 10 on the campus of Long Island University.Â
The Eagles traveled to Long Island to compete at the 2024 NCAA Northeast Regionals, and were joined by the top fencers and teams in the region all looking to earn bids to the NCAA Championships on March 21-24.
Freshman Elijah Onik shined for the Eagles on Sunday, ultimately placing second overall in Men's Foil just behind Jan Jurkiewicz of St John's University. Four other Eagles competed in this event with Ryan Ho coming in 11th, Adam Yang 27th, Christian Ko 31st, and Daniel Hong 39th.Â
Junior Levi Hughes kept the momentum going for BC, finishing third overall in Men's Epee. Hughes finished behind Justin Haddad of Columbia and Paul Fortin of St. John's University. Hughes is coming off the ACC Championship meet where he earned the bronze medal in Men's Epee for his performance. Torata Mishima finished 23rd in this event, while Colin Yu came in at 32nd overall.Â
The Eagles had four athletes place in the top-20 in Men's Sabre. Luca Berman finished ninth overall, while Ryan Wong came in 11th, Inigo Rivera came in 14th, and Colin Noble was tied for 19th.Â
On the Women's side, Boston College had three athletes place in the top-40 in Women's Epee. Junyao came in 16th, Ginevra Giordano 26th, and Helen Cobert (39th) rounded out the finishers for the Eagles.Â
The Eagles had four fencers finish in the top-35 in Women's Sabre. Rachel Buhay was the highest finisher for BC, coming in at 20th overall. Artemis Christeas (28th), Isabella Zielinski (tied for 33rd), and Rachel Liu (35th) rounded out the participants for the Eagles.Â
Boston College finished the meet with two fencers placing in the top-30 in Women's Foil. Taylor Sartori came in at 25th overall and Cameron Cho finished 29th. Greta DeBack (40th) and Taylor Cho (43rd) were the final two finishers for the Eagles.Â
Up Next: The Eagles will find out Tuesday, March 12th if they have any athletes competing at the NCAA Fencing Championships on March 21-24 in Columbus, Ohio.Â
