Lacrosse Opens Season with 20-9 Win Over UMass

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The second-ranked Boston College lacrosse team got off on the right foot with a 20-9 win over No. 20 UMass on Friday afternoon in Fish Field House.
The Eagles improve to 1-0 for the fourth straight season. UMass falls to 0-1.
Nine different Eagles registered a goal with four recording hat tricks. The defense was just as impressive with nine caused turnovers and 17 ground balls. Ryan Smith and Hunter Roman led the team with a pair of caused turnovers, while Shea Dolce led the team with five ground balls on top of her six saves.
Shea Baker collected a personal-best five draw controls with one goal and a caused turnover. Cassidy Weeks totaled four draw controls, three scores, one caused turnover and one ground ball.
Emma LoPinto showcased an impressive debut with four goals and an assist for five points. Mckenna Davis turned in a game-high six points with two goals and four assists.
Weeks got it going early, scoring two of her goals in the opening minutes of the contest.
UMass sliced the lead to 3-2 in the first quarter before BC's offense stormed for eight straight to take an 11-2 advantage late in the second period. Five different players led the charge in scoring.
The Eagles went into the half with a 13-4 advantage thanks to one of three Andrea Reynolds scores with three seconds left in the half.
BC rolled from that point, as its lead was no less than eight goals in the second half. Belle Smith and Brooke McLoy scored the final two goals of the contest to give their squad the 11-goal triumph.
The hosts return to action on Tuesday against UAlbany at 4 p.m. in Fish Field House.
