
Waggoner Scores 25 in Setback to Notre Dame

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Boston College women's basketball suffered a 79-55 setback to No. 19/18 Notre Dame on Sunday afternoon in Conte Forum. The Eagles fall to 11-18 and 3-13 in the ACC. The Fighting Irish are 21-6 and 11-5 in the league.Â
Dontavia Waggoner turned in her best performance of the season, pouring in a season-high 25 points and grabbing a career-best 15 rebounds (12 offensive). She also registered four steals.
It was a defensive battle in the first half, where both teams shot less than 30 percent from the floor. BC jumped out to a 14-3 lead in the first 5:37 of the game after forcing Notre Dame to a 1-of-9 start. Five straight points by Lacey capped off the spurt, giving BC its largest lead of the game.Â
Notre Dame controlled the second quarter, outscoring the Eagles by 17. Waggoner's layup at the end of the second period cut a six-point deficit to four, 29-25.Â
The visitors stretched their lead into double digits late in the third period, capturing a 12-point advantage. Waggoner scored four straight points to close the gap to eight. However, the Irish widened their cushion back to 13 at the end of the third. ND pulled away in the fourth after shooting 70 percent from the floor.Â
The Eagles return to action on Thursday against North Carolina at 7 p.m. in Conte Forum for the final home game of the season.
