
BC Splits Doubleheader against Georgia Tech

Eagles go to 18-18 on the season after first two games of series
ATLANTA, GA – Boston College played a doubleheader against Georgia Tech on Friday afternoon. The Eagles fell to the Yellow Jackets 5-1 in the first contest today but bounced back in game two to win 4-3. BC moves to 18-18 on the season and 2-9 in the ACC while Tech goes to 19-19 overall and 3-11 in the conference.
In game one of the day, BC led 1-0 for much of the game but the Jackets finally got their offense going in the fifth and sixth innings, scoring two and three runs respectively. Pitcher Blake Neleman for Georgia Tech nearly threw a no hitter, allowing just one hit and recorded nine strikeouts as well.
In the second leg of today's doubleheader, the Eagles were able to shake off the earlier struggles and grind out a win. Junior Nicole Giery hit what ended up being a critical solo home run in the fourth inning to cut the Tech lead to 2-1. It was her third home run of the season.
The other key moments of the game came in the sixth inning, Senior Captain Maddy Carpe came up with another clutch hit, despite two outs in the inning and an 0-2 count, she doubled to bring Zoe Hines and Kam Warman home for the score to tie the game at 3-3. Then, Sophomore Kali Case singled down the left field line to send Carpe in for the game winning run to make the score 4-3.
Sophomore pitcher Abby Dunning got the start and the win for Boston College, she pitched her tenth complete game of the season, recording six strikeouts in 25 total at bats.
BC Softball will be back on Sunday in Atlanta to close out the series at 12 PM EST.
