Seventh Inning Homer Tilts Midweek Contest To UMass
March 29, 2023 | Softball
CHESTNUT HILL, MASS – Boston College softball lost to UMass 6-5 on Wednesday evening. With the loss, BC's record goes to 16-14 overall while UMass improves to a 9-17 record on the season.Â
The Minutewomen took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a double from Jules Shields that brought in Giana Wameling.
It took the BC offense some time to get it going but it finally got on the board with a four-run fourth inning. Hits from Kamryn Warman and Meghan Schouten brought Abigail Knight and Nicole Giery home. The Eagles then took a 5-3 lead on a sacrifice fly in the fifth inning.Â
It looked like Boston College was going to squeeze out the win but in the top of the seventh inning, Jules Shields of UMass broke the hearts of the Eagle fans in attendance by cranking a three-run shot over the fence to take a 6-5 lead. BC was not able to muster anything else at the plate in the final half inning despite getting runners in scoring position.Â
BC softball will be back this weekend to host the fifth ranked Clemson Tigers for a three game series.Â
