About the Eagles
Boston College bounced back from an opening-day shutout at Pepperdine to claim the series and move on to the second weekend of the season at 2-1. Senior captain Vince Cimini, who started game one at third base before moving to shortstop, led the BC lineup with five hits. The Eagles pitched a shutout of their own in game two behind six innings from graduate right-hander Chris Flynn. In his Division I debut, the Roger Williams transfer struck out seven and allowed just one hit. BC poured in 18 runs on 16 hits in the Sunday finale. Senior center fielder Barry Walsh homered and doubled in a four-RBI performance in the nine-hole, while freshman leadoff hitter Cohl Mercado went 4-for-6 with four RBI in the designated hitter role.
Playing at the Shipyard
In the Covid-impacted 2021 season, Boston College played its only non-conference series against Charleston Southern on opening weekend. Due to conditions of the field at CSU, the Eagles and Buccaneers played their series at Shipyard Park. BC swept the series by a combined score of 34-7.
