BOSTON COLLEGE VS. VIRGINIA - ALL-TIME SERIES

Today's game is the 28th all-time meeting between the two teams.
Boston College is 8-19 all-time against Virginia. In ACC regular season play, BC is 7-15 against Virginia.
This is the second of two regular season meetings with the Cavaliers. On Jan. 28, the No. 7/6 Cavs earned a 76-57 win in Charlottesville.
On Jan. 7, 2020, the Eagles snapped a six-game losing streak vs. the Cavaliers with a 60-53 win at home.
BC has dropped its last five matchups with Virginia.

NOTABLES FROM THE FLORIDA STATE WIN

Boston College's 75-69 win at Florida State on Feb. 18 marked the first win in Tallahassee for the Eagles since Feb. 11, 2007.
The Eagles led by 19 points in the first half - the largest lead of the season for BC in ACC play.
Quinten Post was 5-for-5 from 3-point land - becoming only the sixth BC player to go 5-for-5 or better from the perimeter.
Devin McGlockton was 10-of-10 from the foul line in the win; the 20th BC player since 1996-97 to be perfect from the FT line (min. 10 FTA). He is only the third BC freshman to go at least 10-for-10 from the foul line (Troy Bell 2x, Patrick Heckmann).

POST SIMPLY SPECTACULAR

Since returning to the Boston College lineup 16 games ago, Quinten Post has emerged as one of the top big men in the country.
Post is slightly under the 50/40/90 line for the season: 56.1% field goals; 48.8% 3-pointers; 87.2% free throws.
He is the only player nationally posting those percentages (min. 10.0 ppg) in 2022-23.
Since 1996-97, only one other player - Thomas Welsh of UCLA in 2016-17 - has posted those season averages (min. 10.0 ppg)
Through 16 games - all in ACC play - Post is averaging 16.4 points, 6.1 rebounds, 1.5 assists, and 1.1 blocks per game.
Post is one of 12 players nationally - and one of two players in the ACC (Bacot, UNC) - to post those per game averages.
In ACC-only stats, Post ranks ninth in scoring, 11th in rebounding, ninth in blocks, third in FG%, and fifth in FT%
Post has scored 20 or more points on six occasions and has reached double figures in 12 of his last 13 outings.

Post had career-highs of 29 points and 14 boards at Notre Dame, following that up with 22 vs. Louisville and 24 at Virginia.
He is one of two players in the ACC - and 24 nationally - to register a 29-point/14-rebound double-double this season.
Post is the first BC player since Ky Bowman from Feb. 28-March 8, 2018 to score 22 or more points in three consecutive games.
He is also the first BC player since Bowman in 2018-19 to register two double-doubles with 24 points or more.
In the 12 games without Post, BC averaged 64.3 points per game, while connecting on 41.3% from the floor, 26.6% from the perimeter, and 67.1% from the FT line - with a 0.79:1 assist/turnover rate.
In the 15 games with Post, BC is averaging 68.1 points (+3.8 ppg), is connecting on 44.5% of its field goals (+7.8% increase), 35.4% from beyond the arc (+33.1% increase), and 77.0% from the FT line (+14.8% increase) - with a 1.16:1 ATR.

MADSEN CONTRIBUTING OFF BENCH

Over his last nine games, Mason Madsen is averaging 7.0 points off the bench, while connecting on 15-of-44 3-pointers.
At Pitt on Feb. 14, Madsen was 5-of-10 from the floor - 4-of-8 from 3FG - good for a team-high 14 points.
The 6-3 guard has committed nine turnovers over his last 344 minutes of play / 17 games played.

FREE THROW DISCREPANCIES

In ACC play, Boston College is averaging 14.8 trips to the free throw line, while opponents are getting to the line 15.8 times.
In ACC losses, BC opponents hold a +4.0 advantage in free throw attempts; 11.0 for the Eagles and 15.0 for opponents.
Last time out at Pittsburgh, the Panthers made 19 trips to the foul line to only nine for the Eagles.
On Feb. 4, Syracuse held a 24-4 advantage in free throws attempted. On Jan. 7, Duke held a 19-7 edge from the foul line.

Over his last four games, Chas Kelley III is averaging nearly 8.0 points and 3.0 assists, shooting 50% FG and 47% from 3FG.
He has made seven of his last 15 3-point attempts during the four-game span.
Kelley came off the bench at Virginia Tech to score a career-best 17 points in a season-best 31 minutes of play.
The 6-3 guard made 5-of-8 shots - including 4-of-7 from the perimeter - while dishing out four assists (zero turnovers).
Kelley scored 11 of his 17 in the second half, including a pair of free throws with 14 seconds left which sealed the win.
He logged seven points and three steals against N.C. State and six points and four assists at Pittsburgh.

BIG 3 OVER THE LAST 11

Quinten Post (18.4 ppg), Makai Ashton-Langford (11.7), and Jaeden Zackery (9.5) are averaging nearly a combined 40.0 points over the last 11 games for Boston College. That accounts for nearly 55% of the Eagles' scoring during that span.

McGLOCKTON ONE OF ACC'S TOP FRESHMEN RESERVES

Among ACC freshmen who have come off the bench in 75% of their games, Devin McGlockton ranks second in the league in scoring (6.3) and third in rebounds (4.1). The 6-7 forward earned his first start of the season on Jan. 31 against Clemson.
The 6-7 redshirt freshman is playing his first season of college ball and has scored in double figures on eight occasions.
He entered the starting lineup on Jan. 31 vs. #22/23 Clemson and is averaging 7.5 points in 21 minutes as a starter.
Last time out at Florida State, he tallied 16 points, seven boards, and two blocked shots in 26 minutes.
McGlockton scored 12 of his 16 points in the final six and a half minutes of play, making two FG and eight FT.
The Cumming, Ga. product made 3-of-4 field goals and 10-of-10 free throws - the first time BC player made at least 10 free throws without a miss since Derryck Thornton was 11-for-11 from the FT line in a win over N.C. State on Feb. 16, 2020.
On Dec. 21, McGlockton scored 13 of his 18 points in the second half to help lead BC over #20/21 Virginia Tech.
Six of those 13 second half points came during a key 8-0 run, helping BC build a nine-point lead with under 5:00 to play.
On Nov. 30 at Nebraska, McGlockton logged his first career double-double, with 20 points and 11 boards.
Boston College is 9-2 when he blocks at least one shot and 6-2 when he plays 20 minutes or more.
McGlockton ranks second in FG% (55.2%) effective FG% (57.3%), and true shooting percentage (62.1%).
Against Rhode Island, McGlockton scored the evental go-ahead basket with 1:07 remaining in the game.
He also sealed the victory with two free throws with eight seconds remaining; scoring six of his 11 points in the final 1:40.
Against Wyoming, McGlockton had 12 points (5-8 FG; 2-3 3FG), four rebounds, an assist, a steal, and three blocks.
The last player to post a similarly complete stat line - Steffon Mitchell against Duke (12p/5r/1a/1s/3b).
McGlockton is the first Boston College player in at least 26 years to post that stat line coming off the bench.

RING OUT THE OLD...

Boston College saw its 420-game streak with at least one made 3-pointer end on Jan. 17 at North Carolina.
BC was 0-for-6 from beyond the arc in the game - marking the first time since Nov. 28, 2009 that BC went without a 3-pointer.
The Eagles were the first ACC team this season - and the first since Virginia a season ago - to go 3-pointer-less in a game.
Last year, UVA was 0-for-6 from 3-point land vs. Louisville on March 9, 2022 and 0-for-9 vs. Virginia Tech on Feb. 14, 2022.

The very next game, BC connected on a then season-best 11 3-pointers, going 11-of-19 at Notre Dame on Jan. 21.
The 11 treys were the most by the Eagles since Feb. 21, 2022 when they also made 11 in a home win over Florida State.
BC's 11-of-19 shooting was good for 57.9% - the best single-game shooting mark (min. 10 3FGA) since Jan. 20, 2019.
The Eagles made a season-high 12 trifectas at Virginia Tech on Feb. 8 and 11 against Syracuse on Feb. 4.
It marked the first time since Dec. 7 and 10, 2019 that BC made 10 or more 3-pointers in consecutive games.
BC had 11 treys against Notre Dame on Dec. 7, 2019 and 10 versus Albany on Dec. 10, 2019.

7-FEET TALL FROM 22 FEET, 1 AND 3/4 INCHES AWAY

Quinten Post is now Boston College's all-time 3-point field goals leader by a 7-footer, with 21. Post is 32-for-75 (.427) at BC.
He passed Nate Doornekamp '05, who finished his Eagles' career connecting on 16-of-45 from beyond the arc (35.6%).
Post ranks second among all active 7-footers in 3-point field goal percentage over the past two seasons (min 30 3FGM).

ALLOW ME TO RE-INTRODUCE MYSELF

Boston College is 5-0 when Jaeden Zackery scores at least 15 points in a game this season.
On Jan. 25, Zackery scored 14 of his 15 points in the second half (5-8 FG; 3-3 3FG) in a win over Louisville.
Zackery scored a season-high and game-high 18 points in the win over Notre Dame on Jan. 3.
The sophomore guard tallied 14 of his 18 points over the final 10 minutes of play in the second half against the Irish.
He made a career-high seven field goals in the game, while adding four boards and three assists in 37 minutes.
Prior to scoring 16 points vs. Wyoming, he had tallied 11 points in his previous two games - including a season-low four points against Tarleton State, going without a field goal for the first time in his career to that point (39 games).
Against Wyoming (8-8) and Rhody (7-8), he went to the free throw line 16 times, connecting on 15.
When Zackery goes to the free throw line at least five times, Boston College is 4-1 in 2022-23 and 7-2 all-time.
Zackery has been BC's high scorer on six occasions and ranks third in scoring (10.0) since the return of Quinten Post.
