BC and BU Meet at 70th Beanpot on Monday

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – For the first time in Beanpot history, Boston College and Boston University meet in the Consolation Game on Monday at TD Garden with faceoff set for 4:30 p.m. Radio coverage begins at 4:15 p.m. on WEEI 850 AM and BCEagles.com.

BEANPOT BREAKDOWN
• The Eagles suffered a heartbreaking overtime defeat to Harvard in the Beanpot Semifinal last Monday, while the defending champions fell to Northeastern 3-1
• This will be the fourth Battle of Comm Ave this season with the Terriers winning two of the previous three by sweeping a home-and-home last month
• Boston College has won the Beanpot 20 times with 16 runner-up, 25 third-place, and only eight last-place finishes in the 69 previous editions of the event

SERIES HISTORY
• Monday will mark the 291st edition of the Battle of Comm Ave, which began in 1918 as part of Boston College's first varsity season of men's hockey
• BC began the Hockey East regular season series with a 9-6 victory back at Kelley Rink on Dec. 9, 2022 to finish the first half
• The Terriers responded by sweeping a home-and-home series 6-3 at Agganis Arena and 3-1 at Conte Forum on Jan. 27-28, 2023
• The series finale marked Boston University's first win at Conte since Dec. 1, 2017
• In the Beanpot, BU leads the series 29-16-0 in 45 previous meetings
• The schools' last Beanpot matchup was a 5-4 Boston University victory in double overtime of the 2020 Semifinal

BEANPOT REWIND
• Boston College stormed back from 3-1 down in the third period to force overtime, but No. 10 Harvard scored with 1.5 seconds left in the extra session to win 4-3 last Monday night in the first semifinal of the 70th Beanpot at TD Garden
• Marek Hejduk converted a 2-on-1 from the left circle in the dying seconds of overtime as the Crimson advanced to next Monday's title game
• BC out-shot Harvard 48-25, including a dominant 22-2 edge in the third period
• The Eagles made it 3-2 with 4:14 left in regulation on an individual effort from Nikita Nesterenko, and Cutter Gauthier tied it on an extra attacker goal with 1:31 remaining
• Lukas Gustafsson finished the night with a pair of assists, while Nesterenko led the team with nine shots on goal

NHL NOTES
• Chris Kreider (NY Rangers) became the eighth player in team history to reach 250 career goals on Feb. 8
• The goal also tied Mark Messier for the seventh-most in franchise history
• Kreider is only the fifth skater to score 250 career goals with the Rangers after debuting with the club
