February 10, 2023 | Men's Hockey
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Boston College out-shot Maine 32-21 on Friday night, but Victor Ostman made 31 saves and the Black Bears pulled out a 3-1 Hockey East victory at Kelley Rink.
The Eagles dropped to 9-12-6 (5-8-5 HEA) while Maine moved back to .500 at 13-13-2 (7-9-1 HEA).
Maine took the lead 5:18 into the first period on a tic-tac-toe passing play when Donavan Villeneuve-Houle found Lynden Breen open on the weak side at the right post.
The Black Bears doubled their lead on a shorthanded goal from Didrik Henbrant, who beat Mitch Benson (18 saves) blocker side on a breakaway at 14:00 of the opening frame.
Colby Ambrosio and Andre Gasseau both had quality chances early in the second period, and Cutter Gauthier later rang the short side post on the power play from the right wing. BC out-shot Maine 10-5 in the middle frame but couldn't cut into the Black Bears' lead.
Junior Trevor Kuntar pulled a goal back with just under four minutes remaining, receiving a pass from Gasseau on his backhand and lifting the puck over the glove of Ostman. The goal was Kuntar's 10th of the year to set a new career-high.
Boston College pulled Benson for an extra skater with just over two minutes left in regulation, but Villeneuve-Houle sealed the points with an empty-netter at 18:26.
BC faces Boston University on Monday in the Consolation Game of the 70th Beanpot with faceoff set for 4:30 p.m. at TD Garden.
