7-footer finishes with 31 points, 11 rebounds, and four blocks in the season-opening win
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. (AP) -- Quinten Post scored a career-high 31 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead Boston College to an 89-70 win over Fairfield in the season-opening game for both programs Monday night.
Post was 11-of-14 from the field, including 5-of-6 from 3-point range, for his eighth career 20-plus-point game. Post's previous high was a 29-point performance against Notre Dame last season. The 7-footer also blocked a career-best four shots in 29 minutes of play.
BC used a 12-0 run, capped by a Post dunk, to take a 21-8 lead with 12:09 to go in the first half. Â The Eagles would build as much as an 18-point lead after a Donald Hand Jr. 3-pointer with 3:59 to play made it 42-24. Â Fairfield would close the half on a 10-4 push and the Eagles led 46-34 at the break.
The Stags would get within nine - at 48-39 - early in the first half.  But a 22-5 Boston College push would put the game well out of reach, after a traditional three-point play by Claudell Harris Jr. made it 70-44 with just under 11 minutes left. Fairfield would get no closer than 20 points until the final seconds of the ball game.
Jaeden Zackery added 10 points for the Eagles, knocking down 5-of-8 shots from the floor. Four other Eagles had nine points on the night - Harris, Hand, Devin McGlockton, and Mason Madsen - and 10 players scored on the night.  BC improved to 72-20 in season-opening games all-time and its 89 points were the most in a season-opening win since Nov. 13, 2009 against Dartmouth (89). The Eagles connected on 49% from the floor and made 11 3-pointers.
Boston College returns to action on Friday when it travels to Charleston, S.C. to take on The Citadel. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. and the game will stream live on ESPN+.
