All Too Well: Eagles Surge Past Harvard on Saturday
November 18, 2023 | Men's Basketball
Boston College moves to 4-0 for the first time since 2007-08
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. -- Quinten Post poured in 20 points and career-highs with 19 rebounds and five blocked shots as Boston College moved to 4-0 with a 73-64 win over Harvard. Post led three Eagles in double figures, as Claudell Harris Jr. tallied a season-high 19 points and Jaeden Zackery had 18 in the win.
Once again, the Eagles' second half defensive effort was outstanding. BC held the Crimson without a point over the final two minutes while yielding only 29 points on 34.4% shooting. Harvard entered the game scoring better than 82 points and were held 18 points under its season average.
It was a game of runs in the first half, as BC used an 8-0 push - capped by a Prince Aligbe steal and fast break finish - to go up 18-10. Harvard would score the next 13 unanswered to take a 23-18 lead with 9:02 left in the period, but Zackery would score five of the next seven to put BC back ahead - 25-23 - with five and half minutes left.
There were five lead changes in the first half - four coming down the stretch - with the last coming on a Harvard 3-pointer which made it 35-33 at the break.
The Crimson scored the first eight points of the second half, opening up a 10-point lead - 43-33 - with 17:20 left. BC responded with 13 straight points - two 3-pointers from Harris Jr. and five points from Post - to take the lead for good.
The Eagles would not trail the rest of way. Harvard would tie it at 56-56 with 8:32 to go, but that was as close as it would get. The Eagles would outscore the Crimson, 17-8, the rest of the way.
Harris was 4-of-8 from beyond the arc and dished out three assists. Zackery grabbed six boards, dished out five dimes, and logged two steals. Aligbe added eight boards and three steals, while Devin McGlockton registered two blocks in 20 foul-plagued minutes.
With the win, the Eagles move to 4-0 for the first time since 2007-08. BC returns to action next week, when it travels to the National Collegiate Basketball Hall Of Fame Classic in Kansas City. The Eagles take on Colorado State in the opening game on Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. ET (12:30 p.m. local time). On Thursday, BC will face either Creighton or Loyola Chicago. Both games will air live nationally on CBS Sports Network.
