
Stingy Defense Leads Eagles to Win

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Stingy defense backed by a season-high four players scoring in double figures led Boston College women's basketball to a 67-58 victory against Northeastern on Sunday afternoon at Conte Forum.Â
The Eagles improve to 2-1 on the season, while the Huskies fall to 2-1.Â
Teya Sidberry continued her solid play with a game-high 15 points on 7-of-11 shooting with six rebounds. T'yana Todd earned her first start of the season, scoring a season-best 13 points with four rebounds and three steals.Â
Dontavia Waggoner did her damage in the second half, turning in all 13 points in the third and fourth periods, while she collected five steals and six of her seven rebounds coming on the offensive end. Andrea Daley shot 6-of-11 en route to 13 points and grabbed six off the glass. Kaylah Ivey netted five points and tied a personal high with a game-best seven assists.Â
The defense was on point for the entire course of the game, forcing Northeastern into 31 turnovers for 33 points. BC limited the Huskies to a season low in points as well.Â
The Eagles trailed 28-27 going into the break after Northeastern outscored BC 18-11 in the second period.Â
Waggoner got the Eagles going in the third with a layup before Daley scored to give BC a three-point edge. Northeastern tied up with a trifecta, but the hosts scored five quick points to take the lead for good.Â
BC pulled away in the fourth quarter, stretching its lead to as much as 13 with three minutes left in the contest after a Sidberry layup. The Eagles shot 53.3 percent in the period and hit three of their four 3-pointers to seal the win.Â
The Eagles scored 42 points in the paint and held a 14-0 edge in fast break points.Â
BC returns to action on Thursday against Ohio State at 7 p.m. in Columbus on BTN+
