
Eagles Drop ACC Opener at Virginia Tech

BC returns home next Saturday - Sept. 17 - to host Maine at 7:30 p.m.
BLACKSBURG, Va.. – Boston College dropped its ACC opener on Saturday night, 27-10, at Virginia Tech. Â
ÂPhil Jurkovec finished the night 16-of-29 for 144 yards and a touchdown. He also threw a first quarter interception. After that interception on the Eagles' second play from scrimmage, the Hokies struck first after a seven-play drive from the BC 14-yard line. Virginia Tech extended the lead to 10-0 after a 49-yard field goal with under a minute to play in the first quarter. VT extended it to 17-0 early in the second quarter on a 65-yard rush with 13:50 left in the opening half. Â

Connor Lytton's 30-yard field goal with under a minute to play in the first half put the Eagles on the board and it was 17-3 at the break.
ÂThe Eagles found the end zone midway through the third, as Jurkovec found Jaden Williams from two-yards out to cap a six-play, 86-yard drive. Lytton convered the PAT, making it 17-10 with 5:18 left in the quarter. But the Hokies would respond, finding the end zone on their next drive, pushing their lead back to two touchdowns at 24-10 with 1:25 left in the third. A 38-yard fourth quarter field goal by VT made it 27-10.
ÂWilliams made three grabs for 37 yards and a touchdown. Zay Flowers finished the game with four catches for 79 yards. Emmett Morehead entered the game late in the fourth quarter, completing 3-of-5 passes for seven yards on the final drive of the game.
ÂDanny Longman punted 10 times for 443 yards - including a 76-yarder, tying for the second-longest punt in program history.
ÂKam Arnold registered a game-high 12 tackles (two solo), including a tackle for loss. Jaylen Blackwell made eight stops (five solo), including a sack and two for a loss. Jaiden Woodbey logged six tackles and Bryce Steele five, plus a sack.
ÂWith the loss, the Eagles fall to 0-2 on the season and 0-1 in ACC play.
ÂBoston College returns to action next Saturday, Sept. 17 at home when it hosts Maine in a non-conference tilt. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. at Alumni Stadium and the game will air live on regional sports networks, through the ACC (clearances).
