
Lacrosse Opens ACC Tournament with No. 7 Seed Virginia Tech

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The Boston College lacrosse team opens the 2022 ACC Tournament against Virginia Tech on Friday at 5:30 p.m. in South Bend, Ind. The winner advances to the semifinals to face the winner of No. 3 seed Syracuse and No. 6 seed Virginia on Sunday at 3:30 p.m.Â
About the Eagles
Last Time Out
BC ended the regular season with a thrilling 15-13 win over then-No. 4 Syracuse in a rematch of the 2021 national championship. Belle Smith tied a career high with five goals on the evening, leading five Eagles with multiple scores. The sophomore also added a pair of ground balls and one caused turnover. Charlotte North led the way with six points thanks to a hat trick and three assists. She became just the seventh player in women's lacrosse history to reach 400 career points. Kayla Martello netted a second straight hat trick, and both Jenn Medjid and Cassidy Weeks scored twice. Caitlynn Mossman recorded a team-high four assists.Â

The Eagles are 8-15 all-time in the ACC Tournament but have advanced to at least the semifinal round in four straight years, including two finals appearances. BC is 2-0 all-time against Virginia Tech in the ACC Tournament, with wins coming in 2011 and 2013. Six of the Eagles' eight wins in the tournament have come in the last four seasons.Â

Along with four straight national title appearances and one champioship, the Eagles are 80-12 since 2018. BC has not lost more than three times during the span and are also 28-5 during conference play in the regular season.
Seven Named All-ACC
Boston College tied with Syracuse and North Carolina for the most All-ACC selections, while the five first-team honorees for BC led the league. Earning all-first team honors were Charlotte North (Attack), Jenn Medjid (attack), Belle Smith (midfield), Courtney Taylor (defense) and Sydney Scales (defense). Hollie Schleicher made the all-second team and Mckenna Davis made the all-freshman team.
Smith Rakes in the Awards/Schleicher Earns ACC Weekly Award
Along with being named All-First Team ACC, Smith was named the ACC's Offensive Player of the Week after tying a career high with five goals in the win over the Orange. She was also named the IWLCA Offensive Player of the Week. Schleicher earned the ACC Defensive Player of the Week after posting four draw controls, two ground balls and a caused turnover.Â
Scouting Virginia TechÂ
- Virginia Tech finished the season with a 9-8 mark and 2-6 in conference play.
- The Hokies' two ACC wins came by one goal against Pitt (12-11 3 OT) and then-No. 15 Notre Dane (13-12).
- Sarah Lubnow leads the team with 44 goals and 61 points thanks to 17 assists, while Whitney Liebler's 28 assists is a team best. Her 22 goals give her 50 points on the season.
