SOUTH BEND, Ind. - The Boston College lacrosse team held on for a 19-13 win over No. 7 seed Virginia Tech in the ACC Tournament Quarterfinals hosted by Notre Dame in South Bend.Â
The Eagles are now 15-2 on the season, while they will face the winner of No. 3 seed Syracuse and sixth-seeded Virginia on Sunday at 3:30 p.m. in the semifinal round. The Orange and Cavaliers were the final game of the day. It was also win No. 150 for Acacia Walker-Weinstein at Boston College.Â
BC advances to the semifinals for the fifth straight season after a balanced offensive attack, where six players scored at least twice and four players registered a hat trick. Ten of the 19 goals were assisted on as well.Â
The 19 goals are the most in an ACC Tournament game since 2018 in the quarterfinals against Louisville when the Eagles also scored 19.Â
Caitlynn Mossman paced the offense tying a career-high with five goals. It's the fourth hat trick of the season for the senior. Jenn Medjid tied a team-high with six points thanks to three goals and three assists. Mckenna Davis came off the bench with a career day, firing in a personal-high six points with three scores and a career-high three assists.Â
All the Eagles needed was a 4-0 run after trailing 1-0 early in the contest to take a commanding lead. Mossman and Davis scored on back-to-back possessions, while Kayla Martello capped off the run by scoring both of her goals in the spurt.Â
BC never relinquished its lead despite VT staying on the Eagles' tails. Boston College took its largest lead at 11-4 in the second quarter after Charlotte North scored her second of two goals.Â
The Eagles went into the half with a 12-6 advantage before VT sliced the gap to three late in the third period. Scores by Smith and Davis extended the lead to 16-11 going into the final period.Â
VT was able to cut the deficit four midway through the fourth, but Medjid and Mossman's scores iced the contest.Â
North led the team with seven draw controls on top of two assists and her two goals. Cassidy Weeks tallied a goal and a pair of helpers for three points. Courtney Taylor and Sydney Scales turned in three ground balls, and Scales and Smith led the team with two caused turnovers. BC registered 10 caused turnovers on the evening.
