Eight BC starters record at least one hit in 5 inning, run rule victory
AMHERST, Mass. – Boston College's offense exploded for eleven runs on thirteen hits in a five inning, 11-0 victory over UMass on Wednesday afternoon. BC improves to 14-11, while the Minutewomen fall to 7-14.
Senior Ellie Mataya got the scoring going for the Eagles in the top of the second inning with a bases-clearing triple. In the third inning, Kennedy Labshere beat out the throw to first to drive in another run. Gianna Boccagno followed up by crushing a double to the warning track to bring in two more runs.
The Eagles capped off their scoring in the fourth inning by putting up a five spot. Abigail Knight singled and a throwing error on the play allowed Mataya to come home. Freshman Darien McDonough hit her team-leading fourth home run of the year with a three-run bomb. Kristin Giery made it 11-0 BC with a pinch-hit RBI single.
Eight of BC's starters collected at least one hit. Kamryn Warman and Kristin Giery each had pinch hit singles.
Susannah Anderson (6-5) picked up her sixth win of the season with a five inning, complete game shutout. She allowed just three hits and struck out three Minutewomen.
The Eagles (14-11, 2-4) are back in ACC action on Friday for their home opener against Virginia (18-12, 5-1). First pitch is set for 3:00 p.m. All three games this weekend will be streamed on ACCNX.
Weekend events: Friday is BC's Unity game. Saturday is the dedication of the Pete Frates Center - ceremonies will begin at 11:30 a.m. Sunday will be BC's game for breast cancer awareness.
