January 28, 2022 | Men's Hockey
ORONO, Maine – Marc McLaughlin scored his team-high 18th goal of the season, but Boston College dropped a 4-1 final to Maine in Hockey East play on Friday night at Alfond Arena.
The Eagles fell to 10-11-4 (5-8-3 HEA), while the Black Bears improved to 4-14-4 (2-10-2 HEA).
Maine took the lead at the 6:39 mark of the first period when Jakub Sirota beat Eric Dop blocker side through a screen from the right wing faceoff circle.
BC nearly answered on the following shift but Eamon Powell hit the left post with a snap shot from between the circles. Adam Dawe doubled the Black Bears' lead with 3:53 left in the opening period, firing a shot high blocker side from the slot.
McLaughlin put Boston College on the board at 6:44 of the second as he followed a Cade Alami shot at the right doorstep and converted the rebound past a sprawling Victor Ostman. Alami posted his first career point with the primary assist, while Nikita Nesterenko grabbed the secondary.
Grant Hebert restored the two-goal cushion for Maine with 5:50 left in regulation when he batted a puck off the end boards into the net from the left doorstep.
Hebert added an empty-netter in the final minute to seal the points for the Black Bears.
BC returns to Kelley Rink next Tuesday to host Harvard at 7 p.m.
