Elisabeth Laviolette’s game-winning single in the eighth the difference
BRIGHTON, Mass. – Freshman left fielder Elisabeth Laviolette's walk-off single scored Djhane Valido from second as Boston College captured its fifth straight victory with a 5-4 win in eight innings Saturday against Louisville in the first game of a day-night doubleheader.
Susannah Anderson won her second straight game of the series, throwing her second complete game of the weekend with eight innings of work.
BC used a big four-run third inning to take a 4-1 lead, thanks in large part to freshman second baseman Nicole Giery's first career home run. Giery launched a three-run shot over the scoreboard in left.
Louisville got one back in the fourth and then scored two with two outs in the sixth on a ball lost in the sun. BC looked like it was out of the inning in the sixth, but the ball dropped in and tied the contest at four.
The Eagles had a chance to win it in the seventh, but left the winning run stranded at second.
In the eighth, Valido and Ellie Mataya both singled before Laviolette walked things off for the game-winner.
Mataya led BC with three hits while Laviolette and Gianna Randazza both recorded multi-hit afternoons for the winners.
The five-game winning streak for BC is the longest since 2018, when the Eagles put together a stretch of 13 consecutive victories.
The two teams resume game three of the series today at 5 p.m. on ACC Network.
