No. 5 Eagles Continue ACC Play at Virginia Tech

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The No. 5 Boston College lacrosse team continues its ACC campaign in Blacksburg, Virginia against Virginia Tech on Saturday, April 10 at 12 p.m. on ACCNX.

SERIES HISTORY
BC leads the series 14-5 and is on a two-game winning streak. The last time these teams played was in 2019, where BC won, 16-13. In that game, Cara Urbank had three goals and one assist. Virginia Tech's last win came in 2017, beating BC 18-12. BC has won nine of the last 10 meetings, dating back to a BC 17-3 win on April 21, 2011.

SCOUTING VIRGINIA TECH
The Hokies enter with a 3-7 record and are 0-5 in the ACC. They have wins over Liberty, Longwood and Radford. They have played close games against ranked teams, losing in overtime to Jacksonville and losing 13-9 to Louisville. They also lost 12-10 to Virginia and 12-8 to Duke.
VT's offense is led by Sarah Lubnow (13G, 18A) and Paige Petty (25G, 1A) who have 31 points and 26 points, respectively. In goal, Angie Benson has started a majority of the games and has a 3-6 record in her nine starts. She has an 11.68 goals against average and .399 save percentage.

INSIDE LACROSSE MIDSEASON HONORS
Three Eagles were honored by Inside Lacrosse from their midseason honors. Charlotte North and Cara Urbank were named All-Americans, with North on the first team and Urbank an honorable mention. Belle Smith was named midseason rookie of the year.

OFFENSIVE FIREPOWER
BC is averaging 16.89 goals per game, which sits fifth in the nation and second in the ACC.
Leading that ground is Charlotte North, who is averaging 4.11, while Jenn Medjid is averaging 3.22 and freshman Belle Smith is at 2.22. The Eagles have also been incredibly efficient, shooting .526 from the field, which leads the ACC and is fourth in the nation. Lacrosse Reference has BC has BC as the third-most efficient offense in the nation at 40.5%.

MAKE IT, TAKE IT
BC has been one of the best teams in the country at draw controls and is averaging 17.78 per game. Charlotte North leads the unit with 76, which is already seventh in a single season at BC, and is second in the ACC averaging 8.44. The Eagles have all three on the main draw unit in the top-12 in the ACC in draw controls, as Hollie Schleicher is averaging 3.78 per game and Cara Urbank 3.11.

FRESHMEN ON THE BIG STAGE
Even with a much older college lacrosse landscape because of the extra year of eligibility, BC has some freshmen who have really stepped up early. Belle Smith, the No. 2 incoming recruiting according to Inside Lacrosse, is currently leading the middie's with 20 goals and six assists. Smith has a point in every game to start her career on The Heights. She has been playing the best lacrosse of her young career, with eight points (7G, 1A) last weekend against Louisville and added two assists against Duke. Smith is second in the ACC and sixth in the nation with a .667 shooting percentage. Smith is also tied for fifth in the nation among freshmen with 20 goals.

The backbone of BC's defense is held by two freshmen in Hunter Roman and Sydney Scales. Both earned starts in each of the last five games and have appeared in all nine games this year. BC's second midfield line is made up of mostly freshmen. Annabelle Hasselbeck has two goals and four assists on the year, Kayla Martello has three goals on all three of her shots and Andrea Reynolds has gotten more run as of late and scored her first-career goal against Louisville.
