No. 4 Eagles Open ACC Championships Against No. 11 UVA

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The No. 4 Boston College lacrosse team opens the 2021 ACC Championships in Chapel Hill, North Carolina against No. 11 Virginia on Wednesday, April 28 at 7:30 p.m. at Dorrence Field. The game will be broadcast live on ACC Network.

SCOUTING THE CAVS
Virginia enters as the 11th-ranked team in the country according to the IWLCA Coaches' Poll with an 8-7 (3-7 ACC) record. They are on a five-game losing streak with losses to Notre Dame. Syracuse, North Carolina (twice) and Virginia Tech. On offense, they're led by Taylor Regan (20G, 15A), Lillie Cloak (28G. 5A) and Ashley McGovern (29G, 3A), who all have more than 30 points. They spread out the scoring offense and have six offensive players with more than 20 points this season. In goal, Charlie Campbell has started every game for the Cavs this season, amassing an 8-7 record. She has a 13.42 goals against average and .429 save percentage.

SERIES HISTORY
Virginia leads the all-time series against BC, 13-6. The Eagles have one the last four matchups against the Cavaliers, including in 2021, 20-11. BC and UVA faced off on March 13, 2021 in Newton, Mass., where BC won 20-11. Charlotte North led all scorers with seven goals and also added two assists. BC had nine different goal-scorers in the game. The last time UVA won was in 2016 at Virginia, 15-14.

OFFENSIVE FIREPOWER
Averaging 16.50 goals per game, BC has one of the most-potent offenses in the nation. They lead the ACC in goals per game and sit seventh in the country. Â They have also been incredibly efficient, leading the ACC with a .521 shooting percentage, which is also third in the country.
Leading the change is Charlotte North, who leads the ACC in goals with 62. Also, in the top-10 in the ACC in scoring is Jenn Medjid, who has a career-high 40 goals this season and freshman Belle Smith with 33. The Eagles have two in the top-four in assists in the conference as well, with Caitlynn Mossman tied for second with 29 and Cara Urbank in fourth with 27.

FRESHMEN ON THE BIG STAGE
Even with a much older college lacrosse landscape because of the extra year of eligibility, BC has some freshmen who have really stepped up early. BC was the only school to have three named to the ACC All-Freshman Team. Belle Smith, the No. 2 incoming recruiting according to Inside Lacrosse, is currently leading the middie's with 33 goals and 10 assists. Smith has a point in every game to start her career on The Heights. She set a career-high in points against Notre Dame with six, on four goals and two assists. Smith was named to the All-ACC first team and ACC All-Freshman Team. She was the only freshman on either the first or second All-ACC teams.

The backbone of BC's defense is held by two freshmen in Hunter Roman and Sydney Scales. Both earned starts in each of the last 11 games and have appeared in all 14 games this year. Both were named to the ACC All-Freshman team.

The ACC announced this week its All-ACC teams, picking the first and second teams, as well as a new ACC All-Freshman Team.
