Eagles lose 3-0 in game two of the doubleheader
BRIGHTON, Mass. – Senior pitcher CC Cook threw her second career complete game and fanned a career-best 11 but it was not enough as Stony Brook defeated Boston College 3-0 in game two of a doubleheader Sunday at Harrington Athletics Village.
Â
The Seawolves moved to 9-5 with the two wins while BC fell to 5-10.
Â
In game one, Stony Brook starting pitcher Dawn Bodrug held Boston College to one run on six hits and struck out 12 as the Seawolves defeated the Eagles 4-1.
Â
Junior catcher Gianna Boccagno gave the Eagles an early 1-0 lead with her third home run of the season. The solo shot cleared the scoreboard in left field.
Â
Stony Brook took its first lead of the day with two runs in the fourth that proved to be the difference. The Seawolves scored a run on a bunt single and a wild pitch to lead 2-1.
Â
Stony Brook added two insurance runs in the top of the seventh to increase the lead to 4-1.
Â
The three-run cushion was more than enough for SBU starter Dawn Bodrug. She finished throwing a complete game with 12 strikeouts to move to 5-2 on the season.
Â
Emme Martinez led the way for BC going 3-for-3.
Â
Game two featured a pitchers' duel between BC's CC Cook and Stony Brook's Melissa Rahrich before the Seawolves broke the scoreless tie in the fifth.
Â
Stony Brook's Nicole McCarvill singled through the left side with the bases loaded for the game's first run in the top of the fifth.
Â
Stony Brook tacked on two insurance runs in the seventh, including Jourdin Hering's solo home run to start the inning.
Â
The 3-0 margin was the difference as Rahrich limited the Eagles to three hits in the complete game shutout.
Â
Cook went the distance and allowed just three runs (two earned) with a career-best 11 strikeouts.
Â
Boston College returns to action Tuesday at 3 p.m. versus Boston University at Harrington Athletics Village.
