The lacrosse team plays its first home matchup of the season on Sunday
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. -- The No. 5/14 Boston College women's lacrosse team (1-1, 0-0 ACC) opens up the Newton Campus Lacrosse Complex for the first time in 2020 as it plays host to Vanderbilt (1-0, 0-0 AAC) on Sunday. First draw is set for noon.Â
The Eagles are coming off of a dominant win over Boston University, as they topped their cross-town rival 16-6 on Wednesday at Nickerson Field. Junior Charlotte North set a single-game program record, tallying 12 points off of eight goals and four assists as the team balanced for an 11-1 second half after a 5-5 tie at the halftime break. Classmate Jordan Lappin and sophomore Jenn Medjid each added three goals in the effort as sophomore goalkeeper Rachel Hall picked up 15 saves.
The Eagles and Commodores share a short history, only having met twice in the series, which began in 2012. Vanderbilt won the series opener in Nashville on March 7, 2012 by just one goal, finding a 13-12 final score. The Eagles bounced back the following year, topping the Commodores 13-8 in Newton on Feb. 20, 2013. In the short series, the home team has come out on top in each contest. Sunday afternoon will mark the first time that Acacia Walker-Weinstein has faced the Commodores in her career as head coach at Boston College.
Following Sunday's contest, the Eagles head west to take on No. 16/17 Southern California in Los Angeles on Friday, Feb. 21.
