NEWTON, Mass. – Emily Knous scored her second goal in as many games late in the second half for the Boston College women's soccer team but the No. 10 Virginia Cavaliers held off the Eagles for a 2-1 win on Thursday night at the Newton Campus Soccer field.
After a scoreless first half, the Cavaliers struck twice in a span of four minutes in the second half to take a 2-0 lead. The Eagles responded with pressure over the final 20 minutes and Knous pulled BC even with seven minutes to play. Despite a final attempt from Jenna Bike, Virginia would hold on for the win.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- 65' | After a corner clearance, Alexa Spaanstra carried the ball from the edge of her own box up the left side of the field before slotting a diagonal ball to Rebecca Jarrett. Jarrett took a long touch into the box and then snuck a right-footed shot between Allie Augur and the right near post.
- 69' | Diana Ordonez took a shot from six yards out that Augur dove to save but the rebound dropped to Claire Constant for a high finish.
- 83' | Laura Gouvin sent in a corner kick that a UVA defender headed away from the goal to the edge of the box but Knous was able to step into it and hit a one-touch, left-footed shot inside the far left post.
GAME NOTES
- Virginia had a 17-11 lead in shots … the teams were equal in corner kicks at 6-6.
- Goalkeeper Allie Augur finished with four saves for the Eagles … Laurel Ivory made one save for the Cavaliers.
- The Eagles are now 8-10-2 in the all-time series with the Cavaliers …. this was the 13th game in the series that was decided by one goal or less.
- Jenna Bike, Emily Knous and Jillian Jennings paced the Eagles with three shots each.
- Knous registered her second goal of the season and second in as many games … this is the second time in her career that she has scored in back-to-back games, doing it as a freshman at Arizona in 2018.

- BC will close out the eight-game ACC fall slate with a home game against Virginia Tech at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 1.
