
Eagles Face Tough Weekend vs. No. 6 Louisville, No. 11 Saint Joe’s

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The Boston College field hockey team continues their 2019 season at home, welcoming No. 6 Louisville on Friday, Sept. 27 at 4 p.m. and No. 11 Saint Joe's on Sunday, Sept. 29 at 12 p.m.
The Battle of the Birds
Boston College lost a tough match on the road at Louisville last year on a penalty corner after time had expired. It was an even game as both teams took 11 shots, while the Cardinals had the advantage in shots on goal, 8-5, but BC had nine penalty corners to Louisville's five. The Eagles are 2-3 all-time against the Cardinals, with the last win coming at Louisville in 2016, 3-1.
Saint Joe's is an unfamiliar foe for the Eagles, only facing off once in program history. That meeting came in 2000, when BC topped the Hawks, 1-0.
Last Weekend
Boston College opened ACC play on the road at No. 18 Wake Forest, downing the Demon Deacons 2-0. Jonna Kennedy made six saves in goal and registered her second-career complete game shutout. Margo Carlin extended her goal-streak to four games, while Fusine Govaert extended her point streak to four as well. Brigid Wood scored BC's other goal on the day, her first of the season.
Scouting Louisville
Louisville is coming off its first loss of the season against No. 1 North Carolina, 4-1. Prior to that they had won all six of their games, scoring multiple goals in all but one of them.
Offensively, Russ Bethany leads the Cardinals, who has seven goals and two assists this season. Louisville has had eight different goal scorers this season, with five of them having multiple goals. They sit fourth in the ACC with 19 goals this season.
Defensively, Hollyn Barr has seen a majority of the time in net, logging over 330 minutes and a 6-1 record. She has only given up six goals on the season and made 10 total saves.
Scouting Saint Joe's
Saint Joe's comes to Newton after a good weekend against then No. 10 Delaware and Penn, winning 4-2 and 3-0, respectively. They enter 6-1 with their only loss at Syracuse in overtime.
Offensively, they have multiple goals in every game but the one loss and are led by Tonya Botherway with five goals. Closely following her is Jordan Olenginski with four. They average 3.86 goals per game and excel at putting the ball in the cage. Pepa Serrano is their main passing threat with six assists this season.
In net, Victoria Kammerinke is the only goalkeeper to see time for the Hawks, logging 425 minutes. She's gives up nine goals and made 30 saves on the year for a .769 save percentage.
The Kennedy Center Honors
Sophomore Jonna Kennedy was awarded NFHCA Division I Defensive Player of the Week and ACC Defensive Player of the Week for her six-save effort against No. 18 Wake Forest on Friday. She played the entire game in net and marked her first full-game shutout since Oct. 28 last year against BU even though BC was outshot 11-10 (6-5 on goal).
Carlin's Calling
Freshman Margo Carlin is off to a hot start in the maroon and gold, scoring three goals in her first four career games. She then followed that up with goals in her last four games, bringing her total to seven on the year. She currently sits tied for third in the ACC in goals and tied for second in goals among freshmen.
Govaert Goes Far
Fusine Govaert is an integral part of the BC offense, scoring four times and assisting on four goals this year. She has points in her last four matches, while having points in six of seven games this season.

BC is back next weekend with a road ACC game at Virginia on Friday, Oct. 4 at 5 p.m. and a home non-conference game against Quinnipiac on Sunday, Oct. 6 at 12 p.m.
