Eagles Set for ACC Championship This Weekend

Competition for BC begins on Thursday night
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. — Boston College is set to compete at the 2019 ACC Outdoor Track & Field Championship, held at Lannigan Field on the campus of the University of Virginia. The championship will run from Thursday, May 9 through Saturday, May 11.
"We are ready to tackle the ACC Outdoor Championships head on," said head coach Matt Kerr. "The team is the fit and ready to compete with an aim to qualify for finals and score in all of the events we are contesting."
On Thursday, May 9, the preliminary rounds of the 400m hurdles and 1,500m will be held, beginning at 6:25 p.m. ET. Max Herrerias and Marcus Manson will race in the 400m hurdles, while Erik Linden and Ian Ritchie will toe the line in the 1,500m. At 8:30 p.m., Sean Burke will race in the finals of the 10,000m run. Burke, who was named the 2019 Boston College Co-Male MVP at the Golden Eagle Awards this past Sunday, enters the race with the second-fastest seed time - 29:11.68.
"We are fielding the strongest team in many years and have a lot of momentum right now in our mid-distance and distance events. Sean Burke is setting his sights on a big race in the 10000m and we feel that he's a strong contender for the title and Ian Ritchie has been on a roll this spring with some strong victories at big meets." Kerr said.
On Friday, the Eagles return to the track for the opening rounds of the 400m and 800m and the finals of the 3,000m steeplechase. Khalfani Green and Stephen Windisch will compete in the quarter, while Matt Morano and Russell Wells will look to advance to the finals of the half. The prelims rounds for the 400m start at 6:50 p.m, with the 800m beginning at 7:35 p.m. At 8:10 p.m. on Friday night, Sean Sullivan leads a trio of Eagles in the 3,000m steeplechase.
Kerr added, "Sean Sullivan has made huge strides in the steeplechase It should be an exciting week for us in Charlottesville."
It will be a busy Saturday of final rounds for BC, with advancing Eagles from Thursday and Friday, as well as the 5,000m, triple jump, and 4x400m relay. Burke will look to complete a success distance double, while Avery McKenzie will compete in the triple jump. In the final event of the championship, Green, Windisch, Morano, and Manson will take the baton in the 4x400m for BC.
