Baseball Wraps Up Series Win vs. Notre Dame
May 17, 2019 | Baseball
Eagles end up on top in game that featured three ties and five lead changes.
Boston College prevailed in a game that featured three ties and five lead changes. The Eagles used two big innings, four runs in the third and four in the seventh, to secure the victory. Trailing 7-5 at the stretch, five walks tied the game and finally a ball headed up the middle by junior center fielder Dante Baldelli (Cumberland, R.I.) put BC up for good. Baldelli reached on a fielder's choice after the second baseman robbed him up the middle, but the throw to second for the force was high and allowed two runners to head home.
Three Eagle relievers combined for six innings of work. Redshirt-sophomore lefty Joey Walsh (Plymouth, Mass.) was the third pitcher out of the pen. He settled the game down; inheriting a two-run deficit and a runner on base. Walsh (4-6) got the win after pitching into and out of trouble in the ninth as the Fighting Irish (23-28, 12-17) plated a run, but left the bases loaded.
Junior first baseman Jack Cunningham (South Riding, Va.) led the BC lineup with a 3-for-4 night. Junior shortstop Brian Dempsey (Potomac, Md.) was 2-for-4 with a RBI-triple and two runs scored.
