Burke Places Third in 10K; Ritchie, Manson Advance to Finals
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — Sean Burke placed third in the 10,000m run, while Marcus Manson and Ian Ritchie advanced to Saturday's finals in the 400m hurdles and 1,500m, respectively, in the opening day of competition at the 2019 ACC Outdoor Track & Field Championship, held at Lannigan Field on the campus of the University of Virginia.
Burke ran 29:26.40 to earn a spot on the podium. The senior from Pleasanton, Calif. will continue racing on Saturday in the 5,000m final.
Manson clocked a personal-best 54.67, putting him in the eighth and advancing to Saturday's final. Max Herrerias registered a time of 55.15 seconds - good for 10th.
Ritchie finished fourth in his heat - which yielded the top four qualifying times of the night - crossing the finish line in 3:47.51. It was a personal-best time for Ritchie in the 1,500m. Erik Linden narrowly missed advancing on time, running a personal-best time of 3:49.57 putting him 10th overall. Linden bested his previous PR by six seconds. The top three in each heat, plus the next three best times advanced to the final.
On Friday, the Eagles return to the track for the opening rounds of the 400m and 800m and the finals of the 3,000m steeplechase. Khalfani Green and Stephen Windisch will compete in the quarter, while Matt Morano and Russell Wells will look to advance to the finals of the half. The prelims rounds for the 400m start at 6:50 p.m, with the 800m beginning at 7:35 p.m. At 8:10 p.m. on Friday night, Sean Sullivan leads a trio of Eagles in the 3,000m steeplechase.
