Eagles Fall To Virginia Tech, 11-1

First pitch on Sunday has been changed to 10 a.m.
BRIGHTON, Mass. – No. 24 Virginia Tech scored seven runs in the first inning and never looked back, as the Hokies defeated Boston College, 11-1, in five innings in the second of a three game series on Saturday at the Harrington Athletics Village.
Boston College dropped to 16-31 and 4-16 in the ACC, while Virginia Tech improved to 42-8 and 19-4 in the conference. The final game of the series will be play on Sunday at 10 a.m. at the Harrington Athletics Village.
BC had five hits and left seven runners on base in the loss. Senior Allyson Moore had two hits, while Ellie Mataya, Emme Martinez and Gianna Randazza each had a hit. Â Senior Kendra Friedt took the loss as she went 0.2 innings and gave up seven runs. Freshman Susannah Anderson came in to relieve Friedt and went two innings, gave up two runs and struck out two. Sophomore CC Cook finished the game as she gave up four hits, struck out two in 2.1 innings on the mound.
The Hokies had 11 runs on 14 hits and left 10 runners on base in the win. Pitcher Carrie Eberle improved to 23-5 as she went the distance and struck out five.
Virginia Tech's seven run first inning proved to be tough for the Eagles to overcome. Virginia Tech's Kelsey Bennett drove in the first two runs on a single up the middle. With a 4-0 lead, Maddi Banks hit a three-run home run to right center in the inning to push the lead to 7-0.
BC cut into the cut into the lead as and Randazza hit back-to-back singles in the second inning. Gianna Boccagno walked to load the bases and Carly Sanders drew a walk to put one on the board for the Eagles in the second inning.
Virginia Tech put three more runs on the board in the third inning behind four hits. Emma Strouth had a line-drive double to center which scored two of the three runs. Sophomore CC Cook ended the inning as she got Meredith Slaw to ground out leaving two no to end the inning.

-Boston College and Virginia Tech will play the final game of a three-game series on Sunday at 10 a.m. Fans are encourage to arrive early as the program will honor the four seniors – Lexi DiEmmanuele, Allyson Moore, Kendra Friedt and Carly Severini – prior to the first pitch.
-The Eagles will host non-conference UMass Lowell on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
