Eagles Drop Series to No. 14 Duke

Brighton, Mass. - The Boston College softball team (12-31, 3-14 ACC) fell in both games of its doubleheader to No. 14 Duke (34-12, 17-3 ACC) on Saturday. The team split the doubleheader with 17-4 and 17-6 losses.
Game 1 - BC 4 | Duke 17
Duke got on the board first with a home run in the first at-bat. The Blue Devils would score 16 more runs through the first four frames before the Eagles hopped on the board in the fifth.
To start the inning, Sophia Bertorelli held Duke scoreless to allow the offense another chance to work. In the bottom of the fifth, the Eagles found their footing, starting with a single by Emma Knight. Adriana Martinez singled to send Knight home, scoring the Eagles' first run. Janis Espinoza homered to deep center to bring in three more runs for the Eagles, ending the first game of the doubleheader 17-4.
Game 2 - BC | Duke
Duke opened the second game with a two-run home run. BC answered with its own home run from Knight, her 12th of the season in the bottom of the inning. The Blue Devils added three more runs in the top of the second.
The Eagles capitalized at the plate at the bottom of the second, taking the lead for the first time in the series by scoring five runs. Carly Bunnell ripped a single up the middle to bring home Nicole Riddell. Knight followed up with a RBI double to right center, securing a place in her second single-season top 10 mark in the BC record book. Abby Ptak singled to left field to bring Knight home before Martinez capped off the scoring with a homer to deep left field to bring home two more runs.
Duke retook the lead, scoring seven more runs in the top of the third. The Blue Devils brought in five more runs in the sixth, ending the game 17-6.
GAME NOTES

- Emma Knight had her 38th RBI of the season, putting herself in BC's single season top 10 for RBI
- Adriana Martinez extended her hitting streak to seven games
- Holly Paharik and Emma Knight each had two doubles on the weekend
