Softball Drops Opening Game of Series Against No. 14 Duke

Brighton, Mass. - The Boston College softball team (12-30, 3-13 ACC) falls 12-2 to No. 14 Duke (33-12, 16-3 ACC) at home in the series opener.
Duke jumped on the board early with a run in both the first and second inning. The early parts of the game were highlighted by defensive plays from Holly Paharik with a dive at third in the second inning and Nicole Riddell throwing a runner out at the plate from right field for a double play to get out of the third inning.
The Eagles loaded the bases in the bottom of the sixth inning while trailing by nine. Paharik drove in a run with a groundout to the pitcher. Riddell then walked to load the bases again, forcing a pitching change for Duke. Kae DePerio followed by slapping a ball to first base allowing BC to score its second run and cut the deficit to 9-2 heading into the seventh.
The Blue Devils would add three in the seventh and hold the Eagles for a 12-2 victory.
GAME NOTES
- Holly Paharik made two diving plays at third to hold runners
- Holly Paharik had the lone RBI and double for the Eagles
- Sammy Horn had a team-high two hits in the leadoff position for her 13 mulit-hit game
- Adriana Martinez is on a five-game hitting streak with a single todayÂ
