Second Half Explosion Leads to Win Over No. 5 Northwestern
March 09, 2019 | Lacrosse
The lacrosse team grabbed their eighth win of the season, backed by nine points from Kenzie Kent and seven goals from Dempsey Arsenault
EVANSTON, Ill.– The No. 1 Boston College lacrosse team held strong through a battle with No. 5 Northwestern, finding their first win on Wildcat turf in series history, 22-17, Saturday night. Senior captain Dempsey Arsenault shattered her previous career-high with seven goals on the night while graduate student Kenzie Kent led all point-scorers with nine from five goals and four assists. Four different Eagles recorded at least three goals while seven contributed to the total.Â
The opponent found the first goal of the day for the third time this season, as Liza Elder opened it up for the Wildcats. Kent and Sam Apuzzo traded goals to put the Eagles up by 2 before Northwestern found two of their own, beginning the 30 minutes of tug-o-war. Kent found four of her five goals in the opening stanza, giving the Eagles some insurance. BC held just a one-goal lead heading into the halftime break following a Wildcat goal at the buzzer.
The Eagles found their momentum in the second half, going on a 12-5 run in less than 10 minutes of playing time. Arsenault found four goals within the frame while Taylor Walker grabbed three of her own. Junior Cara Urbank scored twice in the second frame to total three goals on the night while classmate Sheila Rietano and sophomore Jordan Lappin each found one. Throughout the contest, the score was tied four different times - but the Wildcats couldn't hold the momentum long enough to find the win.
