
No. 1 Eagles Ready For Challenge Against No. 21 Georgetown

The lacrosse team will look for their first win over the Hoyas in program history this weekend
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The No. 1 Boston College women's lacrosse team is set to take on their fourth consecutive nationally-ranked opponent as they welcome No. 21 Georgetown to Newton this weekend. First draw is set for 12:00 noon on Saturday, March 16 at the Newton Campus Fields. The contest will be broadcast via the ACC Network Extra.Â
The Eagles are coming off of a strong road swing over spring break as they took down both No. 12 Navy and No. 5 Northwestern. Boston College is a perfect 8-0 so far in 2019, led by Sam Apuzzo's 41 goals and Kenzie Kent's 33 assists so far this season. Both stats currently lead the NCAA.
At Navy, Apuzzo had herself a day as she topped the entire Midshipmen offense by scoring eight goals. In a final 18-5 decision, the reigning Tewaaraton winner looked once again worthy of the award as she also grabbed two assists to total 10 points on the evening. Kent, despite behind held to just one goal, followed right behind Apuzzo, tallying six assists. Dempsey Arsenault recorded her first hat trick of the season and helped on three other goals to end with six points on the night. Sophomore goalkeeper Abbey Ngai held the team up with her third consecutive 12-save game.
Over the weekend, the Eagles found their first-ever win in Evanston as they topped Northwestern, 22-17. Arsenault owned the field, recording a career-high seven goals. Cara Urbank and Taylor Walker each added three goals for the Eagles in the top-5 win.
Ngai and Arsenault swept the weekly ACC Player of the Week honors, as Arsenault was named ACC Offensive Player of the Week and Ngai earned Defensive Player of the Week. Following her conference nods, Arsenault was also named the National Offensive Player of the Week by the IWLCA. Arsenault totaled 10 goals, 13 points, four ground balls and six draw controls over the two games while Ngai recorded 16 saves and held a .705 save percentage at Navy.
The 21st-ranked Hoyas most recently just missed a win over No. 8 Penn in an 8-7 decision. Francesca Whitehurst had three goals for the Hoyas in the loss. Taylor Gebhardt currently leads Georgetown from 17 goals and nine assists for 26 points on the season. Goalkeeper Haelle Chomo has raked in 46 saves and currently holds just an 8.00 goals-against average.
The Eagles and Hoyas haven't met in the ACC era for BC. Their last meeting, a 12-8 win for Georgetown, was during the 2005 season. Boston College has never defeated Georgetown, holding a 0-5 all-time series record.
The Eagles will play host to Albany on Tuesday, March 19 at 4:00 p.m. following the matchup with Georgetown.
