
Martinez Drives in Winning Run to Lift Eagles Past Syracuse, 4-3

BRIGHTON, Mass. – Sophomore Emme Martinez knocked in the winning run in the seventh inning as Boston College defeated Syracuse, 4-3, in an ACC game at the Harrington Athletics Village on Friday.
Boston College improved to 9-15 overall and 1-3 the ACC. Syracuse is now 9-17 and 1-3 in the conference. The Eagles and Orange are scheduled to play on Saturday at 1 p.m. The final game of the three-game series will be played on Sunday at noon.
Martinez, who went 2-for-3 at the plate, stepped up in the seventh inning with two on. Sophomore Gianna Randazza pinch hit for Jules Trevino and worked the count and walked. DiEmnnuele single to left to set up Martinez with a chance to win the game. Martinez worked the count and punch the ball into right field on a 2-2 count to score Randazza for the win.
Syracuse would strike first as the Orange scored three runs in the second inning. Toni Martin scored on a two-out single by Alex Acevedo. Amanda Hansen hit a two-run single to give Syracuse a 3-0 lead. BC sophomore pitcher Susannah Anderson would get out of the inning by striking out Becky Holmgren but the damage was done.
Anderson's teammates would back her up immediately. Freshman Gianna Boccagno walked to start the second inning. With one out, Carlie Sanders double to center moving Boccagno to third. Junior Jules Trevino loaded the bases when she was hit a pitch. DiEmmanuele picked up two RBI on a single to centerfield. BC would tie it when Trevino scored on a sacrifice fly by freshman Ellie Mataya and the game was tied at 3-3.

Dolby's only tough inning was the seventh when she battled to get the third out. She got the first two Syracuse hitters to fly out but would walk the next two batters. Â A couple of wild pitched advanced the runners but Dolby stepped up and struck out Toni Martin to keep the game knotted at 3-3.
