Eagles Fall to North Carolina, 2-0
March 16, 2019 | Softball
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Boston College freshman pitcher Susannah Anderson had a strong performance on the mound, but the Eagles offense came up short in a 2-0 loss to North Carolina at Anderson Stadium on Saturday afternoon in an ACC match up.
The Eagles drop to 7-13 and 0-2 in the ACC. North Carolina improved to 14-9 overall and 4-1 in the ACC. The two teams will play the final game of the three-game series on Sunday at 1 p.m.
Anderson (3-6) went six innings, scattered six hits, walked three and gave up just two runs. Her counterpart, Tar Heel freshman Hannah George (7-3) went five innings, with one walk, four strikeouts and gave up three hits.
BC offense scattered four hits. Kennedy Labshere picked up her first career hit, while senior Lexi DiEmannuele had a single. Sophomore Jenna Ergle also had a double, while freshman Emme Martinez had the only other hit for Eagles.
North Carolina scored in the first inning. The two runs were scored on a two-out single down the right field line by Megan Dray.
The Eagles started off the third with a single by Labshere. The offense stalled as George (7-3) got the next three batters on a strikeout, a line out and ground out.
The Tar Heels looked to pad the lead when senior Kiana Ramsey hit a double to start the fifth. She went to third on a wild throw to second. Anderson would hold Ramsey at third as she shut down the Tar Heels offense. Kristina Burkhardt would fly out, followed by a ground out to short. The final batter Megan Dray popped up to short to end the Tar Heel threat.
BC's final chance to tie the game came in the sixth inning when DiEmmanuele opened up with a single. Martinez stepped up and singled to right, but the Tar Heels right fielder Kristina Burkhardt threw DiEmmanuele out on her way to third base. North Carolina escaped the inning with two ground outs and a secure, 2-0, lead.
